The emergence of electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) vehicles is a new area of aviation, and includes vehicles such as Unmanned Aviation Systems (UAS) which are also known as drones, and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) aircraft.
This new technology has several potential uses, for example aerial mapping and photography, military surveillance, search and rescue, delivery, and air taxis amongst many others. This presents new challenges for noise legislation and understanding of how these types of noise sources may impact people on the ground. This report provides a concise overview of the current knowledge on the impacts of drone noise on humans over the past few years to the start of 2023.
