Reports on an in-service trial of a Helicopter Operations Monitoring Programme (HOMP) involving five Bristow Helicopters Ltd. Super Puma aircraft. The programme involved the routine analysis of flight data recorder information, downloaded from the aircraft via PCMCIA card quick access data recorders installed for the trial. The data was analysed using a PC-based software package developed by British Airways to monitor the operation of the aircraft and the operating environment. Three of the aircraft were based at Aberdeen and the remaining two at Scatsta in the Shetland Islands. Throughout the trial the aircraft were employed in offshore oil and gas exploration and production support activities.
