EU exit

Please note that, in the event of UK participation in EASA and mutual recognition of licences and certificates ceasing, some CAA website content and application forms may continue to carry the EASA logo or reference the EU or EASA rather than the UK CAA in the short term. These will be updated in due course following the outcome of the transition period negotiations on the long-term aviation relationship between the UK and the EU. In the meantime, the guidance provided and the application forms accessed via the CAA website portal will continue to be valid.

Reference:SD-2015/005
Title:Offshore Helicopter Operations
Description:This Safety Directive is made in the interests of helicopter passenger safety and survivability for the reasons set out in Chapter 9 of the CAA Safety Review of Offshore Public Transport Helicopter Operations (CAP 1145). The review identified areas of passenger survivability that needed addressing including improving the prospects of rescue following a ditching, together with mitigating the consequences of capsize. This SD revokes and replaces SD-2015/004, which extended the scope of the directive to cover support for marine lights and alleviation for the carriage of medically incapacitated passengers, and introduces a revised definition for ‘offshore location’ and several textual amendments.

Cancelled on 31 July 2018 following implementation of Specific Approval for Helicopter Offshore Operations (SPA.HOFO) – Sub-part K to Annex V of Commission Regulation (EU) No 965/2012 from 1 July 2018
